“WordPolishers are all Polish and interested in fostering their linguistic identity, while everyday studying the meanders of Scottish English. With that aim in mind we have embarked on a translation project that saw us translate a number of poems by local authors into our mother tongue. 12/8/17: THE POETRY OF PERFORMANCE , Edinburgh International Book Festival, Bosco Theatre, George Street, 8:15 – 9:15pm. With Omar Musa, Luka Lesson and Michael Pedersen. Full set.

Hear the fruits of a very special residency bringing together some of Scotland and Australia’s finest spoken word. Book Festival regulars Jenny Lindsay and Michael Pedersen have joined forces with Omar Musa, a Malaysian-Australian author, rapper and poet who has released both hip-hop records and poetry books, and Luka Lesson, an Australian spoken word artist and musician of Greek heritage whose debut poetry book, The Future Ancients, is a bestseller. 

19/8/17: POET LAUREATE: BRILLIANT CONTEMPORARY POETS (EIBF) Garden Theatre, Charlotte Square. 12:30 – 1:30pm. Full set. What does it mean to be a poet and represent a collective voice? Luke Wright guides us through 350 topical years of Poets Laureate – from Dryden to Duffy – as five brilliant contemporary poets perform their work and make a bid for a Laureateship of their own choosing. Kayo Chingonyi, William Letford, Jenny Lindsay, Richard Osmond and Deanna Rodger perform, before the audience votes for the winning Laureate.

 

19/8/17: USE YOUR VOICE: EIBF Spoken Word Workshop (ages 8 – 12)  3:30 – 4:30pm Writers Retreat, Charlotte Square. Spoken word is everywhere: from TV adverts to YouTube. What thoughts do you want to share with the world and shout about? Scotland’s queen of spoken word Jenny Lindsay and award-winning poet Luke Wright host this fun and lively workshop that will give you everything you need to start writing and performing spoken word like a pro.

23/8/17: That’s What She Said! Full set. The ‘biggest spoken word night in London for women’ (Evening Standard) makes its Edinburgh Fringe debut. A different line-up every night of incredible, irreverent poetry, performance, stand-up and storytelling by women, with featured headliners  Bar Bados, Edinburgh, 17:45pm (FREE)

Do you want to make more of your readings and events? Would you like to engage better with your audience? Are you terrified of reading in front of people?

Performance and Presentation training is designed to help writers bring their work to life, perform better and overcome nerves. In previous courses, writers with years of event experience have benefited, as well as those who are new to taking the stage.

There are a limited number of spaces available on the training course for published writers to work alongside our New Writers Awardees. The training is free of charge and places will be allocated on a first come first served basis to eligible writers.

The training will consist of two workshops, one led by Alex Gillon and the other by Jenny Lindsay. The group will get a chance to do both workshops over the course of the day. To sign up/ for more info, see here.
